With LNG terminal in Bar Montenegro could become energy hub of Western Balkans
, NewsThe construction of an LNG terminal in the Port of Bar would position the city of Bar, but also the whole of Montenegro, as a kind of energy hub of this part of the Western Balkans, it was concluded at the meeting of Finance Minister Aleksandar Damjanović with representatives of the State Department.
As announced by the Ministry of Finance, Damjanović had a meeting in Washington with representatives of the State Department (United States Department of State) Michael Trackton, director of the Office of Investment Affairs, Jay Lovell, deputy director of the Bureau of Energy, Jonathan C. Thompson, director of the Program for facilitating the business of the Office of Commercial Affairs, Michael R. Rusek, Financial Economist in the Bureau of Economics and Business Affairs, and Tom Moore, European Energy Advisor in the Bureau of Energy.
The topic of the meeting was economic relations between Montenegro and the United States of America (USA), with an emphasis on cooperation in the field of energy.
– It was jointly assessed that the issues of energy security, diversification and transformation towards renewable sources and the so-called “clean” energy of inestimable importance for both countries. In this sense, they discussed the possibility of building an LNG terminal (liquid gas terminal) in the Port of Bar, which would position Bar and Montenegro as a kind of energy hub of this part of the Western Balkans. Concrete steps towards the realization of this idea were also agreed at the meeting – it is stated in the announcement.
There was also talk about the potential participation of American companies in this, but also in other energy and traffic infrastructure projects, and Minister Damjanović expressed Montenegro’s readiness to, in partnership with American companies and with the support of American development agencies, approach the implementation of concrete projects.
The meeting was also attended by Nebojša Todorović, chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of Montenegro in the USA.
