The opening of the joint railway border station of Montenegro and Serbia in Bijelo Polje is planned
, NewsThe government has announced the opening of the joint railway border station of Montenegro and Serbia in Bijelo Polje, which, they said, will shorten the time of detention and necessary procedures at the border crossing between Montenegro and Serbia and enable the smooth flow of people and goods, as well as increase the degree of the use of means of transport.
This can be seen in the Economic Reforms Program of Montenegro for the period 2023 to 2025. The program was recently adopted by the Government. That project, as stated, belongs to the broader context of regional cooperation within the Berlin Process, that is, the Transport Community of Southeast Europe and the Action Plan. According to that document, the construction of a joint railway cross-border crossing between Serbia and Montenegro was planned.
– The proposed reform measure treats only one border crossing, as more mature for implementation compared to some others (for example, Tuzi on the border with Albania, which is also part of the Action Plan), for which the financial construction still needs to be closed and the appropriate procurement procedures initiated. This reform measure can be seen as part of a wider effort to encourage corridor development and shorten the time of cargo transportation from the Port of Bar to Serbia – it is written in the Economic Reforms Program of Montenegro for the period 2023 to 2025.
It was announced that In 2023, the final activities are planned for the execution of works on the adaptation and reconstruction of the station building in Bijelo Polje, the arrangement of the station square, the access to the station, as well as the installation of new lighting on all tracks of the Bijelo Polje station. In the course of 2024, it is planned to complete the works, check all the signed protocols, then dislocate the state bodies of both countries and start the work of the joint border station Bijelo Polje.
Also, full implementation of work at the station is planned for 2025, along with proposals for improving work. The Ministry of Capital Investments and the Railway Infrastructure of Montenegro are responsible for implementation.
