During several inspections, by the end of 2022, it was concluded that all binding conditions and over 40 percent of the recommending criteria had been met.

The report highlights the commitment of the management and staff of the hotel to obtain this environmental certificate. By meeting the conditions and obtaining the Green Key label, it helps the sustainable development of tourism, contributes to the preservation of the environment, and reduces the operating costs of the facility.

We expect that the tourism industry in Montenegro will recognize the importance of this label – said Žana Bracović, president of the national commission for awarding the Green Key certificate.

Regent Porto Montenegro General Manager Kai Dieckmann expressed his satisfaction at receiving the Green Key certificate and highlighted the hotel’s commitment to creating sustainable practices.

We are extremely pleased that we are among the first in Montenegro to receive this prestigious designation. It really highlights all the advantages of staying with us and is important for the image of the hotel. Green Key is focused on tourism, and speaks in favor of the fact that we try to have as little negative impact on the ecological system as possible, that we try to show our guests that by staying in our hotel they contribute to a better future.

For us, this is really a “key” that shows that we invest in our team, all our team members and that we run the company in a very sustainable way. We take pride in our green footprint and strive for sustainable practices, while ensuring the well-being of our staff and the local community we are proud to belong to. By doing so, we not only have a positive impact on the environment, but also contribute to the creation of a better world for current and future generations – emphasized Dieckmann.

The Green Key is an international eco-label for tourist facilities. Founded in 1994, Green Key represents the leading standard of environmental responsibility and sustainable development within the tourism industry. The high environmental standards expected to be met by the company are verified through extensive documentation and frequent field visits.

Green Key Global is a non-profit organization that represents more than 4,000 tourist facilities in 64 countries. Our goal is to have a good cooperation with the applicants. We strive to be available for all their concerns. First of all, the first meeting with the manager, that is, with the person who will be in charge of contact with our organization, is important.

So, we are with the facility that wants to apply from start to finish. We are here to answer any questions candidates may have during the application process. We know that these are facilities that have high standards, but we are here for any doubts. Of course, filling out the application also includes valid documents that will confirm all the stated data. For example, if the facility deals with recycling in the facility, we must have proof of that.

When the application is completed, we forward it to the national jury, which, if valid, comes to the site to verify the data. If everything is in order on the ground, the facility has entered the procedure for obtaining the Green Key – explained the procedures Audrey Torasso Sabet, national auditor for awarding the Green Key certificate.

Hotels, smaller accommodation units, campsites and holiday parks, convention centers, restaurants and other attractions can qualify for the Green Keys label. After the award of the prestigious, international recognition, the company can use it for the purpose of PR and marketing.

For guests, the Green Key label is proof of commitment to reducing the negative environmental impact of their stay. The Green Key program is linked to the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
