Proposed measures to lower retail prices in Montenegro gain Government support
, NewsBoris Mugoša, head of the SD parliamentary club and chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Finance and Budget, highlighted on the social network X that during a parliamentary hearing on retail prices, which he initiated, he proposed several measures.
His proposals include reducing VAT on fruits and vegetables, analyzing a potential VAT adjustment on processed meat products, and reviewing the justification of excise policies on certain goods.
He also suggested increasing support for domestic production by allocating more budget funds to enhance competitiveness and expanding the Agro-budget. Additionally, he proposed placing domestic products in more visible locations in retail chains, creating dedicated sales areas for price-controlled products in larger stores, and ensuring price transparency by displaying both current and previous prices for certain periods. Mugoša noted that adjustments within the supply chain—from importers and distributors to retailers—could help lower prices.
According to Mugoša, government representatives largely agreed with his proposals.
“The next step is for the government and retail chains to define concrete actions to systematically address high prices,” he concluded.
