Montenegro’s payment transactions in May: Trends and system performance insights

, News

In May, the total value of executed payment transactions over 19 working days amounted to 1.75 billion EUR, showing a decrease of 27% compared to April, according to data from the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG).

Of this amount, 94.1% was processed through the Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system, with the remaining handled via the Deferred Net Settlement (DNS) system.

RTGS processes individual payment transactions between participants on a gross basis in real time, whereas DNS settles interbank payment transactions on a net basis with deferred timing.

“In May, over 19 working days, 1.12 million transactions were executed, of which 39.22% were through the RTGS system, and the rest through the DNS system,” CBCG’s report states.

The average daily volume of executed payment transactions across RTGS and DNS systems, measured by the number of transactions, was 58.69 thousand transactions. The average daily value of payment transactions amounted to 92.18 million EUR.

During May, out of 10.36 thousand minutes of system production, there were seven minutes of downtime, resulting in system availability of 99.93%.
