Montenegro’s foreign trade surpasses 4.2 billion EUR in 2024, with notable increase in imports

According to preliminary data from the Montenegrin Statistical Office (Monstat), Montenegro’s total foreign trade goods turnover in the first 11 months of 2024 amounted to 4.26 billion EUR, representing a 3.7% increase compared to the same period last year.

Exports were valued at 546.7 million EUR, which is an 11.4% decrease compared to the previous year. Imports totaled 3.72 billion EUR, showing a 6.4% increase.

The coverage of imports by exports was 14.7%, lower than the 17.7% recorded in the same period last year.

In terms of export structure, the largest share was held by mineral fuels and lubricants, totaling 129.3 million EUR, with electricity accounting for 91.8 million EUR.

On the import side, the largest share came from machinery and transport equipment, amounting to 896.9 million EUR, including road vehicles worth 340.6 million EUR.

Montenegro’s largest foreign trade partners in exports were Serbia (162.1 million EUR), Bosnia and Herzegovina (36 million EUR), and Switzerland (31 million EUR). The largest import partners were Serbia (641.1 million EUR), China (439 million EUR), and Germany (368.8 million EUR).

The highest foreign trade turnover was recorded with the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) signatories and the European Union (EU).
