Montenegro will receive 27 million euros thanks to the energy support package for the Western Balkans
, NewsAs part of the support package for overcoming the energy crisis, the European Commission also allocated money to Montenegro for the preparation of the study of the justification for the existence of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant with socio-economic impact.
„A possible additional component could be the provision of support in the retraining of affected workers in cooperation with competent municipal and state authorities, educational institutions and employment centers,“ according to the Information published on the website of the Government of Montenegro.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, presented on December 6, 2022, at the EU – Western Balkans summit in Tirana, an energy support package for the Western Balkans, which consists of one billion euros in EU grants to help the Western Balkans deal with the immediate consequences of energy crisis and increasing resilience in the short and medium term.
The first half of the package consists of 500 million euros of direct budget support to alleviate the economic and social impact on vulnerable households and small and medium-sized enterprises and support the energy transition, while the remaining 500 million euros will be intended for the improvement of energy projects. As part of the support package for overcoming the energy crisis, the European Commission allocated 30 million euros to Montenegro.
As stated in the Information, Montenegro will receive 27 million euros, while the rest of 10%, i.e. 3 million euros to be allocated by the European Commission after all the included indicators have been implemented.
