Montenegro, Tivat airport won’t reach even half of the results from 2019
, NewsIn November, Tivat Airport recorded a total traffic of 18,265 passengers, which is two thirds of the result that the airport had in November of the record year 2019.
Compared to the same month last year, the volume of traffic in November this year is even 64 percent better. The number of aircraft operations also increased, which was 158, while there were 136 in November last year.
From the beginning of the year to the end of November, Tivat Airport achieved a total traffic of 634,720 passengers, which is 46.4 percent of the total performance of that airport in the record year 2019, which Tivat Airport ended with a total traffic of 1,367,282 passengers. Therefore, it is certain that the Tivat airport will not reach even half of the results from 2019 by the end of December.
The reason for such poor results Is primarily the fact that in the last three years, due to political and security circumstances (mutual sanctions between Montenegro and Russia, EU sanctions against Belarus and the war in Ukraine), Tivat Airport has completely lost those three markets, which cumulatively previously held more than one third of total passenger and aircraft traffic.
Although this summer there was a slight increase in the number of flights of airlines from Western and Northern Europe to Tivat, it was nowhere near enough to compensate for the enormous losses caused by the suspension of flights from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
In addition, this year even from those, but also some other markets that the management board of the Airport of Montenegro announced as new significant emission destinations for Tivat, the number of announced flights was absent or reduced. Thus, the promised flights of the Saudi company Flyunas from Riyadh to Tivat and Austrian Airlines from Vienna were completely absent in the pre-season, and the Scandinavian SAS had a significantly lower volume of traffic than planned.
In addition, there was no renewal of the charter flights of the tour operator TUI Nederland from the Dutch market, the German low-cost carrier Eurowings did not fly to Zurich, while the Bulgarian company European Air Charter realized a symbolic number of announced flights from Tivat to cities in Germany, local media reports.
