This year, EUR 16.8 million has been earmarked for the maintenance, modernization and reconstruction of the railway infrastructure, the Government announced.

Namely, at the last session, the Program for the construction, maintenance, reconstruction and modernization of railway infrastructure for the year 2023 was adopted.

– The program includes current and investment maintenance as well as modernization and reconstruction of railway infrastructure in the total amount of EUR 16.8 million. In the budget for this year, EUR 10 million is allocated for current maintenance, and EUR 115,000 is allocated for investment maintenance, while EUR 144,900 is allocated in the capital budget for the resolution of road crossings on the Nikšić-Podgorica railway – the Government’s announcement states.

In the current year, they add, work continues on projects for the rehabilitation of bridges and tunnels on the Bar railway and road crossings on the Nikšić railway, and EUR 2.6 million remains to be spent for this purpose.

– At the end of last year, the Government granted an emergency approval of around 3.9 million for the urgent procurement of materials and equipment, which will be implemented this year – they state.

As part of the signing of new international loans, the Railway Infrastructure of Montenegro signed a loan agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) at the end of December last year in the amount of EUR 11 million for the implementation of the project of procurement of machinery for railway maintenance (civil and electrical maintenance ).

– With the provided loan funds, it is planned to finance the purchase of machinery necessary for the maintenance of the railway infrastructure, with the aim of ensuring the safe and secure development of railway traffic – the announcement concludes.
