But as the cost of living rises, looking for a cheaper lifestyle is becoming the number one reason to move. That’s how Montenegro found itself on the list of the cheapest countries to live in.

As euronews reports, in addition to its natural beauty, Montenegro can also boast of extremely low prices for food, drinks, fuel, rent and accommodation. Numbeo gives Montenegro a score of 38.9. By comparison, Switzerland – the most expensive European destination – has an index of 114.2. On this list, Montenegro occupies the 85th place, while the cheapest place to live is Pakistan with an index of 18. These indexes represent a percentage of the destination’s price compared to New York, the search engine’s baseline. Thus, prices in Montenegro are 38.9% higher than prices in New York, while prices in Switzerland are 14.2% higher than in the Big Apple.

As stated on the website, digital nomads can apply for a two-year visa for Montenegro, with the possibility of an extension for two years. Prices in Podgorica are listed on the website, and it is stated that the average price of a meal is just over six euros, a beer is two euros, while the price of renting an apartment in the city center is around 372 euros per month.
