Montenegro – Epicenter of the debate on sustainable investments

, News

Montenegro is a country that works to provide a favorable and stimulating business environment and we are open to cooperation with companies that want green and sustainable investments – said the Minister of Economic Development and Tourism Goran Đurović at the press conference on the occasion of the opening of the Western Balkans ESG Summit held in Porto Montenegro in Tivat.

As the largest regional event in terms of ESG environmental protection standards, respect for human rights and responsible corporate governance, the summit gathered around 450 participants.

Minister Đurović said that the government’s support for such projects is important because of the state’s desire for our country to be a year-round tourist destination, and that if Montenegro wants to be part of the European Union, the issue of introducing and applying ESG standards is imperative.

In this context, our task is to prepare Montenegrin companies for business according to European standards, and to develop awareness that environmental, social and corporate management standards are inevitable on the way to bring Montenegro closer to the European market – said Đurović.

He also pointed out that the Government of Montenegro worked hard to create and harmonize policies with key documents of the European Union in the field of sustainable and green growth.

We are the first country in the region to define a new model of economic growth, which implies a transition from a linear to a circular model of business, through the creation of the Circular Transition Strategy until 2030. I believe that we have thereby demonstrated our strategic determination in this area – said Đurović.
