Montenegro and Greece strengthen tourism cooperation with new memorandum
, NewsMontenegro and Greece maintain traditionally strong relations, but there is room for further progress, stated Minister of Tourism Simonida Kordić and Greek Ambassador Dimitrios Gioldasis.
In this regard, both sides expressed mutual interest in concluding a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of tourism between the relevant ministries, which has been sent to Greece for alignment in its revised version and will be signed in the near future.
Gioldasis shared positive impressions about Montenegro, emphasizing that the country’s coastline is unique and expressing enthusiasm about exploring its mountainous regions.
“We would be very pleased to see such a country join the European Union, and we strongly and amicably support you in that. You are a role model in the region, and we hope you will become the 28th member by 2028. It is important to further develop our relations, and tourism is certainly a key area for that,” said Gioldasis.
Expressing gratitude for the support, Kordić informed the ambassador that both the government and parliament have a clear intention to pursue EU membership, highlighting the government’s will and progress regarding the European agenda.
“Your support is crucial to us, and we believe that formalizing cooperation with Greece will be of great significance. Signing the Memorandum is just the first step, after which we should proceed with signing a Joint Action Plan, as together we can create a strong tourism package, especially for tourists from distant markets, as I have discussed with colleagues from other countries in the region,” Kordić stated.
She also emphasized that good infrastructure is a prerequisite for the success of all sectors of the economy, including tourism.
The interlocutors agreed that it is essential to improve air connectivity and increase the number of flights throughout the year.
