Montenegro aims to become a top destination for digital nomads with new initiatives
, NewsMontenegro is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for digital nomads, thanks to its legal and infrastructure improvements. The country already offers a two-year visa for digital nomads and aims to further strengthen its position on the global remote work map.
A recent meeting between Nikola Đurašković, Mayor of Cetinje, and key figures behind the initiative, Milovan Novaković (Executive Director and partner at Colliers International) and Jan de Jong (Dutch-Croatian entrepreneur and initiator of a similar program in Croatia), focused on making Cetinje a prime destination for digital nomads.
The goal of the meeting was to discuss actions to make Cetinje more attractive to remote workers. De Jong emphasized that the support from the mayor’s office was crucial in creating a detailed action plan to transform Cetinje into a hub for digital nomads.
Mayor Đurašković expressed optimism about the collaboration and stated that concrete actions would begin soon, with visible progress expected by mid-2025.
In addition to the two-year digital nomad visa, Montenegro’s government has already implemented a Program to attract digital nomads through 2025. Novaković recognized the country’s infrastructure and appealing conditions for remote workers but highlighted the need for a one-year visa option and legal adjustments to further encourage this trend.
Novaković’s initiative, first launched in 2020, aims to enhance tourism, extend the tourist season, and solidify Montenegro’s position as a top destination for digital nomads globally.
