Montenegro advances maritime infrastructure and sustainable development plans

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs is actively working on improving maritime infrastructure, developing strategic plans and promoting Montenegrin ports as key points for sustainable development and nautical tourism, according to Minister Filip Radulović.

Speaking at the Maritime and Port Logistics international conference held in Bar, Radulović emphasized that through cooperation with both the private and public sectors, the development of the investment climate and the implementation of key development projects continue.

“One of Montenegro’s significant advances in this sector is joining the European Ports Organization, which provides technical support in areas such as sustainable development, intermodal transport, port management, and other key sectors,” said Radulović.

The Ministry is also proud that Montenegro will host the final regatta of Ocean Race Europe in September next year, presenting an opportunity to promote sustainability, ecological awareness, and the preservation of the marine ecosystem.

In terms of infrastructure development, the expansion of the Bar Port aquatorium is planned, significantly enhancing the port’s capacity and competitiveness. Additionally, through a project financed by the World Bank, the establishment of modern transport systems such as the Port Community System will further facilitate trade and improve logistics capacities.

Representatives from the Ministry stated that continuous work is being done to improve maritime lines. In addition to the existing Budva-Dubrovnik line, a new Kotor-Dubrovnik line will be introduced next year, while this year saw the renewal of the Ancona-Bar ferry line.

“Montenegro continues to invest in the modernization and promotion of its maritime infrastructure, making it an attractive destination for modern and sustainable travel,” the statement concludes.
