MNE needs fiscal consolidation
, NewsIn the coming year, Montenegro must implement a medium-term fiscal consolidation plan that will reduce the public debt, form a fiscal council, analyze the operations of state-owned companies and apply concrete measures to combat the grey economy, according to the EC Report.
In the document, which was presented yesterday in Brussels, it is assessed that the state has progressed in the last year in terms of economic criteria, but that it is moderately prepared for the development of a functional market economy.
It was noted that the state of public finances has improved compared to 2020, but also that reforms are necessary that would increase budget revenues and reduce costs. The sudden adoption of laws that increased social benefits at the end of last year, without prior analysis of fiscal risks, was criticized.
