Failure to adopt national budget could devastate agriculture in Pljevlja
, NewsThe failure to adopt the national budget would lead to a catastrophe in the agriculture sector in Pljevlja, warned the President of the Municipality of Pljevlja, Dario Vraneš.
“Given that there are around 2,300 registered agricultural producers in Pljevlja with significant production, the suspension of subsidies would lead to the closure of most farms. Agricultural producers are deeply concerned and uncertain whether they will be forced to shut down their farms, into which they have invested many years of work, effort, and sacrifice,” Vraneš stated in a press release.
He added that farmers are already seeking a response from the local government to the national government “to prevent the worst-case scenario of the complete collapse of the agriculture sector.”
“Last year, the local parliament adopted a decision to allocate at least 5% of the total budget to the agricultural budget, and already this year, we are seeing record results in all branches of agriculture, particularly in livestock. A total of 2.3 million liters of milk and over 2,000 tons of cheese were purchased. All of this effort by the local government would be in vain without the support of the state, which hinges on the adoption of the national budget,” Vraneš concluded.
